Melt Pressure Sensors
Melt Pressure Sensors for Extrusion and Polymer Applications
A melt pressure sensor is essential in polymer extrusion and recycling lines. Accurate melt pressure measurement ensures stable throughput, protects dies and gear pumps, and prevents costly downtime. High-temperature melt pressure sensors provide drift-stable performance even under extreme process conditions.
Pressure instability in polymer processing can lead to dimensional deviations, surface defects, material degradation, and mechanical stress on downstream equipment. Even minor fluctuations may result in inconsistent product quality or increased scrap rates.
A high-precision melt pressure sensor installed directly in the melt stream enables continuous real-time monitoring and reliable pressure control. Our melt pressure sensor technology is engineered for long-term accuracy, using high-quality raw materials and mercury-free components under strict in-house quality standards.
We deliver standard melt pressure sensors within 24 hours, while customized solutions are typically available within two weeks. Full system compatibility and fast technical support ensure seamless integration into existing extrusion and automation environments.
Typical Applications of melt pressure sensors:
- Plastic extrusion lines
- Compounding systems
- Polymer recycling processes
- Film and sheet production
- Injection molding preparation stages
Accurate melt pressure measurement supports:
- Stable extrusion throughput
- Early detection of screen pack contamination
- Protection of gear pumps and dies
- Consistent product tolerances
- Reduced scrap and downtime
Sensor Series
DA
The DA Series of melt pressure transducers are characterized by their high quality of workmanship and outstanding performance. They have a standardized output signal.
DAI
The DAI melt pressure transmitters offers – in addition to maximum reliability – improved user friendliness in the form of an Auto-Zero Function for local or remote configuration.
DAIH
The DAIH “Heavy Duty” melt pressure sensor incorporates all the features of the DAI Melt Pressure Transmitter range but features an extremely heavy duty sensor tip for highly abrasive media.
DTA
The DTA melt pressure transducer defines the industry standard in combination with temperature measurement. One process connection suffices to measure both values.
DTAI
The DTAI melt pressure transmitter combines DAI operation and temperature measurement in one process connection, with mA and V outputs for easy integration.
DAP
The DAP Series incorporate a heated sensor tip, which limits the potential for sensor damage relating to the membrane, resulting from installation or removal of the pressure transmitter.
DAIP
The DAIP Series incorporates a heated sensor tip and offers the comfort of the DAI series in combination with temperature measurement, allowing for heater control.
DAIX
With the DAIX melt pressure transmitter, Gneuss MC has an explosion proof sensor series available. These are intrinsically safe.
DAIL
The DAIL melt pressure sensor fulfils the requirements of EN 1114-1 for overpressure protection of extrusion lines and offers maximum comfort of operation.
DTAIL
The DTAIL is a safety melt pressure sensor with analog output, switching output and integrated temperature measurement.
Digital Communication with IO-Link Technology
Gneuss MC melt pressure sensors can be equipped with advanced IO-Link technology, enabling a globally standardized digital connection of sensors and actuators. This technology offers direct point-to-point communication independent of manufacturers and is widely used in industrial automation.
Digital Gneuss MC melt pressure sensors with IO-Link offer several advantages, including the ability to monitor operating temperature, record operating hours under various load conditions, send automatic messages for test intervals, and display a digital nameplate for precise sensor identification. These features contribute to increased safety, flexibility, and system availability.
With IO-Link, users can maximize their melt pressure sensor performance while simplifying maintenance and monitoring. This results in optimized operational performance and the longevity of their sensors and measurement technology.

What certifications do Gneuss MC sensors have?
Gneuss MC melt pressure sensors are developed and manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001-certified processes. Depending on the model, the sensors also have international approvals for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (Ex) and comply with common industry standards, such as HART® Communication and IO-Link. These certifications confirm that the sensors have been developed in accordance with these standards, enabling them to be safely integrated into demanding industrial applications and safety-critical environments.
Which melt pressure sensors are available with the auto zero function?
The auto-zero function (automatic zero calibration) is an automated process in measuring devices, sensors, or amplifiers that automatically corrects the zero point of the device.
Following Gneuss MC sensors can be equipped with this function: DAI, DAIH, DTAI, DAIP, DIAX, DAIL and DTAIL.
