Temperature Sensors
Melt Temperature Sensors for
Polymer Processing
In polymer processing, precise temperature measurement is essential to ensure product quality, process stability and reproducibility. Melt temperature sensors play a central role in this process, accurately measuring the polymer melt, mould or process temperature to provide a stable basis for control in extrusion, injection moulding and recycling processes.
At high temperatures, with changing load conditions and demanding materials, temperature sensors must be reliable, durable and precise. Even deviations of a few degrees can impact viscosity, material properties, and surface quality. Accurate temperature measurement therefore significantly reduces scrap and optimises process parameters.
Sensor Series
TF-CX
The melt temperature sensors of the TF-CX Series are ideal for exact temperature measurements in highly sensitive medias. The ceramic isolation guarantees a direct reading of the melt temperature independent of the flange or tool location.
TF-MX
The TF-MX Series was developed in order to measure melt temperatures quickly and easily for all types of plastics. The melt temperature sensors are economical and versatile and impress with their robustness and reliability due to their all-metal design.
Integration of Melt Temperature Sensors
Depending on the application, different types of sensors are used, such as thermocouples or resistance temperature detectors (RTDs). In addition to measurement accuracy, short response times, high pressure and temperature resistance, and a robust design for continuous use in industrial environments are particularly important.
Modern melt temperature sensors can be seamlessly integrated into existing control and regulation systems, thus supporting continuous process monitoring. In combination with digital interfaces, they enable transparent data acquisition and form the basis for reliable and energy-efficient production processes.

FAQ
What are the benefits of ceramic insulation?
Melt temperature sensors with a ceramic insulated measurement tip provide extremely accurate and reliable measurements of the actual polymer melt temperature.
The thermal insulation minimizes external heat influences from surrounding machine components. This ensures that the measured temperature represents the true melt temperature inside the polymer flow.
Such sensors are particularly recommended for thermally sensitive polymers and demanding extrusion applications.
Are melt temperature sensors available with different sensor tip lengths?
Yes. Melt temperature sensors are available with different sensor tip and insertion lengths, allowing optimal adaptation to different extruders, moulds, and processing equipment.
Sensor tip lengths are available in 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, or 25 mm, among others.
Is it possible to have a flexible version of the temperature sensor?
Yes. Flexible versions with capillary tubes or flexible sensor stems are available to simplify installation in confined machine environments (G-Armor).
Are the temperature sensors also available in an EX version?
Yes. Depending on the application, melt temperature sensors can also be supplied in ATEX / explosion-proof versions with a 4…20 mA transmitter and BUZ head for use in hazardous environments.
